View of the Alaska Range from the Denali Hwy, Alaksa

Starting at Paxson Junction, the Denali Highway climbs quickly from the Gulkana River bottom land into a vast realm of brushy tundra with sweeping views of foothills, mountains, wetlands and lakes. To the north is one of North America's greatest mountain ranges, the Alaska Range, here seen with a fresh overnight dusting of snow. The peaks in view have an elevation greater than 3,700 meters. This range extends in a great arc from Cook Inlet through the Denali massif and on to the Canadian border, a distance of over 1,000 kilometers.
